What is the UK standard VAT rate?

The standard rate is 20%. Some goods and services use the reduced 5% rate or are zero-rated at 0%. Always confirm the rate that applies to your supply.

Should I add VAT or remove VAT?

Add VAT when your figure is net (before tax). Remove VAT when the figure already includes VAT and you need the net and VAT split.

Does zero-rated mean no VAT registration?

No. Zero-rated supplies still sit on a VAT return if you are registered. The VAT amount is £0 at a 0% rate.

Can I use a custom VAT rate?

Yes. Choose Custom Rate and enter the rate you need. Most day-to-day trade work uses 20%.
